  1. I believe that there a number of concerning needs in the local community. One in particular that concerns me is that of homelessness. In this cold winter weather, we need to focus on getting people off the the streets and into warm, safe environments. Does anyone agree?

  2. I agree with you Kim! I also have some thoughts to contribute as well...

Although there are currently many pressing issues within our local community, feeding the homeless population and maintaining our local shelters are two important points that must be addressed. It is troubling to think that individuals must hope and search for meals with all the waste that this nation and even this state leaves behind as a whole. Our efforts should also focus on maintaining our current, local shelters so individuals and families subject to misfortunes can have peace of mind and time to recover. I think there is something to be said about bringing the "human element" back to real life and making these improvements standard procedure in our community for the long-term. These are not short-term problems. Thanks!

  3. Thank you both Kim and bsokol for your compassionate responses. Clearly, homelessness is a serious and sometimes life-threatening situation for families and individuals in our area. That's why our United Way pulled together a number of area homeless providers and advocates to establish the "South Shore Regional Network to End Homelessness", one of ten regional networks in the state to both work toward preventing homelessness and ending it through a "housing first" model with support services. We have a long way to go, but we have already ended homelessnes for over 1,0000 families and 300 individuals. It's important to have a partnership to do this life-saving work!

    1. Ooops, I'm sorry I meant to type in "1,000" families, not 10,000, though wouldn't that be something if we had ended the homelessness of that many families?
